This is an overview of what you can do with the Tag Groups Pro plugin and where to find it in the documentation.

On the back end – where you organize things #

Many features can be activated, deactivated and configured in the Settings. Here you find also a Troubleshooting section with a First Aid tab. Several buttons help you solve common issues automatically, for example by rebuilding a cache or processing data.

On the top-right corner of the settings you see a search field that lets you easily find settings so that you don’t need to climb through all pages.

Most users want to use tag groups with posts. For that purpose you will need the Tag Meta Box. The Tag Meta Box is a box on the screen where you edit posts (or products, or other selected post types) that lets you add tags to your posts. It is different from the default tag box because you can select and add tags by tag group.

On the front end – what your visitors see #

If you don’t need tag groups only to organize your tags and posts on the back end, you probably plan to show them to the visitors of your site. There is a variety of things how you can achieve that.

Display your tags #

Tag clouds #

Tag clouds are a part of most WordPress sites: They display a selection of tags, which are actually tag names with links. These link leads to another page where all posts are listed that use that particular tag.

Tag Groups Pro comes with own tag clouds where tags are organized in groups – exactly the way how you organize them in the back end.

Tabbed Tag CloudTags appear under tabs. Each tab represents a tag group and can be selected.
Accordion Tag CloudTags appear under vertically stacked panels that can be opened and closed. Each panel header shows a tag group.
Alphabetical Tag CloudThis is a special type because here the tags are not organized by groups but by their first letters.
Table Tag CloudTag groups appear in the first row of a table and below them in the second row the corresponding tags. On small screens, the groups will appear in the left column and the tags on the right
Shuffle BoxAll tags appear together in one cloud. Above that cloud there is a search field and buttons for each tag group. You can now filter the tags live (with an animation) by typing a name and/or selecting a group.
Simple Tag CloudAll tags of selected groups are combined into one simple tag cloud. It is like a default WordPress tag cloud where you can determine which groups to use.
Post TagsThink of a small table tag cloud that is automatically added at the end of each post. You see only the tags of that particular post, organized in tag groups. You can replace the usual list of post tags with one that shows the tags in tag groups.

Tag lists #

You can also list your tags in an index.

Tag ListTags appear as a list under group names as headings. The list can be formatted in columns.
Alphabetical Tag IndexTags appear as a list under first letters as headings. The list can be formatted in columns.

Post filters #

Posts use tags, and tags can be organized in tag groups. That gives us the possibility to search posts by tags and tag groups.

Post ListA static list of posts for selected tag groups. Your visitors can click and go to the individual posts, but they cannot change the selection.
Dynamic Post FilterA list of posts that dynamically changes according to selected tag groups and tags. Your visitors interact by selecting a group and – depending on the settings – optionally entering available tags. Every time they add or remove groups or tags, the list shows all posts that match their selection.
Toggle Post FilterA list of posts that dynamically changes according to selected tag groups and tags. The filter shows a fixed set of tag groups and tags, and your visitors interact by turning the tags on or off. Every time they change the selection, the list shows all posts that match their selection.

Other #

You can display any group information by inserting a shortcode or show a menu where visitors can select a tag group and then go to a list where matching posts are shown.
