New Improvements to Auto-Tagging in TaxoPress
TaxoPress 3.26 is available now. This release has some key updates to make the Auto Terms feature more powerful and flexible.
The Auto Terms feature can scan your content and automatically assign new and existing terms. In this release, you can choose between different OpenAI models. You can also combine multiple sources to scan your content. I’ll review these new features in this post.
I’ll also give an overview of what more you can expect from TaxoPress before the end of 2024.

Choose OpenAI Models
TaxoPress Pro integrates with OpenAI to scan your content and suggest existing terms. You can now choose between different OpenAI models. This allows you to either keep on the cutting edge with OpenAI’s newest tools, or you can choose to use the older models, which are cheaper but still effective.
You can find these choices by going to “Auto Terms” and then “Sources” in TaxoPress Pro. Click the “OpenAI” tab.
- GPT-3.5 turbo: The previous set of high-intelligence models.
- GPT-4o mini: The affordable and intelligent small model for fast, lightweight tasks
- GPT-4o: The high-intelligence flagship model for complex, multi-step tasks.
- Chatgpt-4o latest: This points to the current model that’s used to power the ChatGPT UI.
All of these models will allow you to write your own OpenAI prompts to customize the results coming from TaxoPress.
Combine Multiple Sources
If you use TaxoPress Pro, it’s now possible to scan your posts with multiple tools at once. This allows you to get the widest variety of suggested terms. TaxoPress Pro supports five ways to scan your content. In this screenshot below, we’re using three different sources at the same time:
- Existing Terms: This will only add terms if they already exist on your site.
- OpenAI: This will use OpenAI models to scan your content and suggest new terms.
- IBM Watson: This will use IBM Watson models to scan your content and suggest new terms.
This next screenshot below shows a sample result using these multiple sources. You’ll be able to see all three results at the same time.
More to Come for TaxoPress in 2024
Over the next few weeks we’re planning several more upgrades to make Auto Terms even more useful for you. We’re aiming to ship all those upgrades to you before the end of this year.
- A new screen to schedule Auto Terms. This allows to scan large numbers of posts that are imported.
- The ability to scan other content areas beyond the post area. For example, you will soon be able to create terms based on text in Advanced Custom Fields, or in WooCommerce fields.
- Improvements to the Linked Terms feature, which will allow you to to build both 1-way and 2-way links between term
- A new “Taxonomy Import” feature where we provide you pre-existing taxonomies such as lists of countries or eCommerce product categories.
- An upgraded Metaboxes feature so you can control what editors see when they create posts. Below is a screenshot of the metaboxes feature for this post. It’s already possible to remove the default Tags and Categories metaboxes. We’re going to allow you to create your own metaboxes. You’ll be able to present users with a customized list of terms, and you’ll be able to use more advanced displays than the default Tags and Categories metaboxes.
